This research is about David Fresco the editor in chief of the Ladino newspaper El Tiempo published in Constantinople in the years 1872 1930 When Zionism emerged as a political force Fresco and his newspaper responded by declaring its loyalty to the Ottoman Empire Fresco aligned himself with the Chief Rabbi Haim Nahum who took a position against the Zionists This book is thus a study of David Fresco in the turbulent years of the Jewish Community of the early 19th century It also includes a facsimile of David Fresco s work Le Sionisme published in 1909 which is a compilation of his articles published in El Tiempo during this tumultous period and the subject of this study
